Şehrîbana Kurdî — Biography

Şehrîbana Kurdî was born in 1973 in İzmir; her family originally comes from the Mazıdağı district of Mardin. Her involvement with music began in 1987, when at the age of 14 she started singing with local school groups, and from 1991 she went on to become a professional performer.

That same year she released her debut album, Ez keçim keça Kurdanim ("I am a Kurdish girl"), followed by Sor Gula Min (1992), Yek, du, sê (1993), Em Hatin (1995) and Evîna Stranan (2005). Performing mostly in the Kurmanji dialect, she became a well-known name among Kurdish-speaking audiences.

She is known to have lived for many years in İzmir with her husband and children; some sources indicate she now lives in Germany.
