Şarık Arıyak — Biography

Şarık Arıyak (born 3 March 1930 in Istanbul – died 17 December 1980 in Sydney) was a Turkish diplomat. He was educated at the Faculty of Political Science of Ankara University and at the University of Lausanne.

While serving in Sydney, Australia, he was killed on 17 December 1980 in an attack by the organization known as the Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide. The case remained unsolved for decades; Australian police reopened the investigation in 2019, releasing composite sketches of the suspects, and in 2022 published an audio recording related to the attack.
