Samir Avdić — Biography
Samir Avdić was born on 21 March 1967 in Sarajevo. Standing 2.05 meters tall, he built his playing career as a shooting guard, representing Yugoslavia early on and later the independent Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, which he also captained. He remains one of the all-time leading scorers in the history of the Bosnian national side.
After retiring from professional basketball, Avdić moved into politics as a member of the People and Justice party. He served as Minister of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton from 2021 to 2023 and as deputy mayor of Sarajevo from 2023 to 2024, before being sworn in as the city's 41st mayor in July 2025.
