Şaban Özdoğan — Biography

Şaban Özdoğan is a Danish footballer of Turkish descent, best remembered as part of the F.C. Copenhagen squad that won the Danish Superliga in 2009-10 and 2010-11. He ended his playing days at Ishøj IF in the summer of 2024 and is now the club's assistant coach.

He began in the youth ranks of his childhood club Avarta and moved in 1999 to Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB), Copenhagen's reserve side. His first outing with the senior team came in the unofficial Viasat Cup in May 2006; his official debut followed on 3 December 2006 in a Royal League tie, a 1-0 home defeat by Lillestrøm in which he came on for Lars Jacobsen after 69 minutes. Promoted to the KB senior squad two years ahead of schedule in 2007, he joined Ståle Solbakken's first team ahead of 2009-10 together with Thomas Delaney. He made his Superliga debut in April 2010 and appeared in six league games across the two title seasons, under 70 minutes in all. Once Roland Nilsson took over as manager he was surplus to requirements and his contract was ended in December 2011.

He turned down a contract offered after a trial at Kasımpaşa because he doubted its terms, and a trial with Viborg came to nothing. He went back to Avarta in spring 2012, moved to Svebølle B&I that August, and in 2019 became a playing assistant manager at Ishøj IF. He played 26 games and scored once for Denmark's youth national teams, and he played Hakan in the 2005 film Af banen.
