Refik Anadol — Biography
Born in Istanbul on November 7, 1985, Refik Anadol studied at Istanbul Bilgi University before earning a graduate degree in media arts at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he remains a visiting researcher. Through his Los Angeles-based studio, Refik Anadol Studio, he creates work that merges architecture, data science and artificial intelligence.
Regarded as a pioneer of data-visualization aesthetics and AI art, Anadol has presented site-specific projections, live performances, immersive installations and AI data sculptures in more than seventy cities across six continents. His work "Türkiye-Flora," an AI-generated piece built from data on Turkey's plant life, drew such strong attendance at the Türkiye İş Bankası Museum of Painting and Sculpture and at İzmir's Kültürpark that both exhibitions were extended.
In 2026 he opened Dataland in Los Angeles, billed as one of the first museums dedicated to AI art, which he co-founded alongside his studio's ongoing work.
