Raşit Çetiner — Biography

Raşit Çetiner, born on 10 September 1956 in Istanbul, is a former Turkish international footballer and coach. He began his playing career with Kocaelispor between 1974 and 1978, finishing as the top scorer of the Turkish First League and being named Player of the Year in 1978. He went on to play for Fenerbahçe from 1978 to 1981 and Galatasaray from 1981 to 1988, helping the latter win the Turkish Cup in 1982 and 1985, before a serious injury sustained in a 1986–87 match against Samsunspor ended his playing career in 1988.

Known to Galatasaray fans as "Baba Raşit" and "Aslan Yürekli" for his combative style, Çetiner is one of six Turkish footballers to carry the nickname "Baba." After retiring as a player he moved into coaching, most notably leading Turkey's under-21 national team for several years; he was reappointed to the post in February 2010 and left the role in December 2011. He also had spells as a coach with clubs such as Şanlıurfaspor.
