Pervin Çakar — Biography

Pervin Çakar, known professionally as Pervin Chakar, is a Kurdish-Turkish opera singer (soprano) born on 19 June 1981 in the Derik district of Mardin. She began her vocal training in Turkey and continued it in Italy, and now lives in Germany, performing at leading opera houses worldwide and winning awards at international competitions.

In November 2023 she performed at Istanbul's Süreyya Opera House, and around the same time drew public attention after a politician described her as a "separatist artist," prompting expressions of support from figures in the arts world, including composer Fazıl Say. In 2025 she gave opera masterclasses and concerts in Diyarbakır and also performed in Kars, and in the spring of 2026 she took part in a public debate over preserving Kurdish music in its authentic form.
