Özer Umdu — Biography

Özer Umdu is a forward who was counted among the leading scorers of the Süper Lig in the second half of the 1970s. He is known for winning the league's top-scorer award in 1978-79 with 15 goals, and for the nickname "Altın Kafa" ("Golden Head"), which reflects how dangerous he was in the air.

He began playing at Bandırma Çelikspor and was brought into the Balıkesirspor first-team squad at the start of 1972-73. He settled straight into the starting eleven and helped his second-division side to the top of the table. His part in Balıkesirspor's promotion to the Süper Lig in 1974-75 earned him the "Altın Kafa" nickname. At the end of that season he moved to Süper Lig club Zonguldakspor, and in later years he wore the shirts of Adanaspor, Beşiktaş and then Adanaspor again; his top-scorer season was 1978-79.

After football he stayed a familiar name around Bandırma and Balıkesir, speaking to the local press about his playing days.
