Özdemir Erdoğan — Biography
Özdemir Erdoğan (born 17 June 1940 in Istanbul) is a Turkish singer-songwriter, composer and guitarist working in jazz and popular music. Over his long career he has become one of Turkey's most recognizable musical figures.
His best-known song, Gurbet, evokes the homesickness of Turkish workers who left their homeland to work abroad in the 1960s, and it has become a musical emblem of the guest-worker experience of that era.
In 1998 he was granted the title of Turkish state artist; alongside his own recordings, he has also contributed music to film and television productions.
