Ozan Arif — Biography
Born Arif Şirin on October 2, 1949, in the Terme district of Samsun, Ozan Arif was a former literature teacher who combined the roles of folk bard, composer, poet, presenter, and bağlama performer.
Known for his Idealist (ülkücü) and Turkish nationalist identity, he shaped his songs and poems around that worldview, performing at Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) events and gatherings such as the Erciyes Zafer Kurultayı, and he was remembered for his closeness to Alparslan Türkeş.
He died on February 13, 2019, in Samsun, but his legacy has endured among nationalist circles: in 2026, several political parties and their youth wings visited his grave and held events marking the anniversary of his death, underscoring his continued symbolic significance.
