Oya Başar — Biography

Born on February 11, 1956, in Istanbul, Oya Başar joined the Istanbul City Theatres at around age eight and went on to perform with well-established companies such as Devekuşu Kabare, İstanbul Tiyatrosu, and Ali Poyrazoğlu Tiyatrosu. She became one of Turkish cinema, theatre, and television's most recognizable comedic performers over a career spanning more than six decades.

Her film career began with 1966's Oduncunun Çocukları and continued through popular productions of the 1970s and 80s, while the series Olacak O Kadar brought her to wider audiences. In the 2000s she became known for playing Neriman Turuncu in Benim Annem Bir Melek, Zarife in Roman Havası, and Kadriye in the film Yusuf & Yusuf, and she also appeared in the series O Hayat Benim.

In late 2025 she publicly shared emotional memories of comedian Levent Kırca, her former husband who died in 2015, and in spring 2026 she has continued touring with the play Plastik Aşklar alongside Begüm Birgören, appearing before audiences in several cities.
