Osman Özköylü is known as a centre-back of Trabzonspor's side of the 1990s, and as a coach he stands out for titles and promotions in the lower leagues. He was in the Turkey squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2000 European Championship. His departure from Esenler Erokspor on 6 May 2026, just before the play-off final, drew wide coverage in the national press.

He began football at Aydınspor in 1991, moved to Trabzonspor two seasons later and played there for nine years, winning the 1995 Turkish Cup and Super Cup and the Chancellor Cup (1994 and 1996). After Erzurumspor, Körfez İskenderunspor and Elazığspor, in 2010-11 he took Elazığspor to the Second League title without a single defeat, the only unbeaten side in Turkish league football that season. He then coached Denizlispor and, in 2012-13, won the First League with Kayseri Erciyesspor. At Osmanlıspor he won 26 of 52 official matches in 18 months; Şanlıurfaspor, Adana Demirspor and Samsunspor are also among his clubs. He took over Pendikspor on 26 October 2021 and won the Second League in 2021-22 and the First League play-off in 2022-23.
