Osman Denizci — Biography

Osman Denizci (born 13 October 1957 in Trabzon) is a Turkish former international footballer and manager. He played in midfield and was known during his playing days by the nickname Delikanlı Osman.

He was part of the Trabzonspor squad that became the first Anatolian club to win the Turkish championship, and spent four seasons in the side nicknamed Karadeniz Fırtınası, which dominated Turkish football for roughly a decade from 1975. He was also a prominent figure during his time at Rizespor.

He is remembered above all for the goal that decided the 1982-83 Süper Lig title. English-language sources record it as the goal that won Fenerbahçe the championship, while a later interview in the Turkish press has Denizci recounting how that goal made champions of the Fenerbahçe side that had let him go. His older brother Ali Kemal Denizci was a long-serving Trabzonspor player. After retiring he worked as a manager.
