Onur Kayador — Biography

Onur Kayador is a defender who came through Fenerbahçe's academy and whose name became bound up with the club. From 1974 to 1987, apart from a single loan season at Adana Demirspor, he wore only the navy-and-yellow shirt, and in his later years he sometimes led the side out as captain. Among supporters and in club circles he is counted as one of the most significant players in Fenerbahçe's history.

Promoted to the first team in 1974, Kayador made 360 appearances for Fenerbahçe and, although a defender, scored 17 goals. In those years he was in the squads that won the league in 1974-75, 1977-78, 1982-83 and 1984-85 and the Turkish Cup in 1978-79 and 1982-83, and in the teams that took the President's, Fleet, Sports Writers and Challenge cups. He also played in the league match against Galatasaray on 5 June 1983 and in the 1985 European Champion Clubs' Cup tie against IFK Göteborg.

He first wore the national shirt on 3 December 1980, in a 1982 World Cup qualifier against Czechoslovakia. He won six caps up to 1984 and scored his only international goal on 22 January 1984, in a 1-0 win over Egypt in Port Said. He said goodbye to football in August 1987 at a testimonial match between Fenerbahçe and Rizespor in Istanbul, together with Engin Verel.
