Ömer Vargı — Biography

Her Şey Çok Güzel Olacak (Everything's Gonna Be Great), İnşaat (Under Construction) and Kabadayı (For Love and Honor) are the films most closely associated with Ömer Vargı, a Turkish filmmaker known both as a director and as a producer. He wrote some of the films he directed and produced others. In 2018 he received a Lifetime Honorary Award from the Antalya Film Festival, and in 2025 he chaired the jury of its national feature competition.

He came to cinema while studying physics at Middle East Technical University, after graduating from TED Ankara College. In 1974 he began as an assistant on Endişe, then worked with Şerif Gören and served as assistant director on films including Bir Gün Mutlaka, Deprem, Taksi Şoförü and İstasyon until 1977. He then turned to directing commercials. In 1981 he and his wife founded the production company Filmacass, and produced Güneşin Tutulduğu Gün and served as production supervisor on Eşkıya (The Bandit). His directing filmography opens with Her Şey Çok Güzel Olacak (1998), followed by İnşaat (2003), Kabadayı (2007) and Anadolu Kartalları (2011), with İnşaat 2 (2014) a sequel to İnşaat. He also produced Gönül Yarası (Lovelorn, 2005) and the television series Cam Kırıkları.

In 2024 Eşkıya and Her Şey Çok Güzel Olacak were restored and re-released in cinemas, and a book about his life story was published the same year.
