Ömer Tuğrul İnançer — Biography

Ömer Tuğrul İnançer (May 5, 1946, Bursa – September 4, 2022, Istanbul) was a Turkish lawyer, author, and mystic recognized as one of the leading performers of Sufi music. After completing his early education in Bursa, he studied under Emin Ongan at the Üsküdar Musical Society and, following his law degree from Istanbul University, worked as a legal consultant until 1991. That year he became the founding general director of the Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Ensemble under the Ministry of Culture, and from 1971 onward he took part in the musical ensemble of the annual Şeb-i Arus Mevlevi ceremonies in Konya.

From 1999 until his death, İnançer served as shaykh of the Cerrahi branch of the Halveti order, based at the Cerrahi lodge in Fatih’s Karagümrük district; he died at his home in Üsküdar on September 4, 2022. A book compiling his talks was published in the summer of 2026, several years after his passing.
