Ömer Faruk Sorak — Biography

Ömer Faruk Sorak moved out of the world of commercials and music videos to become one of Turkey's best-known directors of popular comedy cinema. His name is tied to widely seen films such as G.O.R.A., Sınav, Yahşi Batı and Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever. He is now working on Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever 3, the third film in that romantic-comedy series.

His first phase was behind the camera: he graduated from the Ankara University School of Communication in 1986, worked as a cameraman at TRT from 1987 to 1995, and then moved into cinematography. In 1998 he founded Böcek Yapım, through which he shot music videos for artists including Feridun Düzağaç, Teoman, Duman, Şebnem Ferah and Kenan Doğulu, along with many commercials. The turning point was Vizontele, made with Yılmaz Erdoğan, which Sorak later called his "turning point". It was followed by Yahşi Çin, 8 Saniye, Kaçma Birader and Bandırma Füze Kulübü. In recent years he has directed digital productions such as Hükümsüz and Başka Bir Sen, and in 2026 the film D.I.S.C.O..

In 2023 he served as jury president of the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival. In 2019 he published a book, Son ki üç dört, with Emre Gürcan.
