Ömer Erdoğan — Biography

Ömer Erdoğan was born on 3 May 1977 in Kassel, Germany, to a Turkish immigrant family, and holds both German and Turkish citizenship. His father enrolled him in an amateur youth team at six or seven; he turned professional at seventeen and moved to Hamburg's FC St. Pauli a year later. After spells at Erzurumspor and Diyarbakırspor, he joined Galatasaray for the 2002-03 season at Fatih Terim's invitation but was largely kept on the bench behind Bülent Korkmaz and Frank de Boer, leaving at season's end. Following two seasons at Malatyaspor, he signed for Bursaspor in 2006-07, rose to become team captain, stood out at centre-back at 1.91 metres tall, earned Turkey national team recognition, and was part of the Bursaspor squad that won the Süper Lig title in 2009-10. He ended his playing career on 13 May 2013, again with Bursaspor.

He entered coaching in 2013 as an assistant under Ertuğrul Sağlam, and went on to take charge of clubs including Hatayspor, Ankaragücü, Alanyaspor and Sivasspor. He took over at Bursaspor in October 2025, though the spell was brief; through the 2025-2026 season his name kept coming up in coaching searches at Bursaspor and Gaziantep FK, though the reported Gaziantep FK move was denied by the club.
