Oğuz Savaş — Biography
Oğuz Savaş is a center who came up through the Ülkerspor youth system, made his name with Fenerbahçe and was part of the Turkey squad that won silver at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Standing over two metres tall, he was for years one of the recognised big men of the Turkish league, and in May 2025, aged 38, he retired from professional basketball.
In the youth ranks he was named the best center, and he played an important part in 2004, when Ülkerspor won the title by a wide margin; a pilot-team arrangement between Ülker and Yeşilyurt let him play in both the youth and the senior team. When he was moved up to the senior squad in 2006, at 19, he averaged 6.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in his first season and won his first Turkish league title. After Ülkerspor merged with Fenerbahçe he became part of the new team, and on 26 March 2015 his 7 points against Unicaja Málaga took him past 1,000 EuroLeague points.
In later years he wore the colours of Darüşşafaka (signing in 2015 and again in 2018), Beşiktaş (2019), Bursaspor (2020), Bahçeşehir Koleji (2021) and Çayırova Belediyespor (2023). At Beşiktaş he had the best scoring game of his season in January 2020, with 23 points and 12 rebounds against Bahçeşehir Koleji. He wore the national jersey from the youth categories on, and after the silver of 2010 he was also in the squad for the 2014 World Cup in Spain.
