Niran Ünsal — Biography

Niran Ünsal, born Fatma Uludan Canevi (13 August 1976, İzmir), is a Turkish pop singer and songwriter. The daughter of TRT İzmir Radio musicians — violinist and vocalist Nursal Ünsal and qanun player Ahmet Canevi — she began singing at age eight in the TRT İzmir children's choir. After years in the radio's youth choirs and a brief spell in the Turkish classical music choir, she left to pursue pop music and stage work.

Her breakthrough came in 1994, when she won the Pop Show 94 competition with Müfit Bayraşa's composition Serseri Mayın. She released her debut album Haktan in 1996, followed by Şarkılara Tutundum (1999) and many further albums, becoming one of the most prominent female pop vocalists of the 1990s. She also wrote songs for other performers and continued releasing singles into the 2020s.

In 2026 she announced her retirement from music, moved to Greece and began working in the cleaning business. In May of that year she was detained as part of a narcotics investigation targeting celebrities, and was subsequently released.
