Nevşin Mengü

Nevşin Mengü — Biography

From main evening news bulletins to online broadcasting, Nevşin Mengü has made her career as a Turkish journalist and television presenter. In July 2011, on a day when Kanal D's main news anchor could not go on air, she presented the main bulletin on two different channels within a single day and made television history. Today she runs a daily news broadcast on YouTube under the title Bugün Ne Oldu? and writes columns for the newspaper Nefes.

The daughter of the politician Şahin Mengü, she graduated from TED Ankara College, studied political science at Bilkent University and took a master's degree at Galatasaray University. She entered television in 2005 at Kanaltürk with the women's programme Kadınlar Kulübü and became a reporter at Habertürk the next year. On an offer from One Ajans she left that job and spent a year and a half running the agency's Tehran bureau. After a short spell at Hürriyet she worked as an editor and presenter at CNN Türk, a post that ended in 2017. She gathered her observations from Iran in her first book, İnsanın Düşünmekten Canı Yanar mı?, published in November 2017.

After 2017 her work centred on newspapers and online video: she began writing for BirGün on 31 October 2017, wrote for Diken from 2019 and presented the weekly Bire Bir programme on DW Türkçe's YouTube channel. She anchored the main bulletin at Olay TV, which closed in December 2020; in 2021 she took part in the FOX programme Orta Sayfa and published Herkes İstediği Gibi Yaşasın with Büşra Cebeci.
