Nevin Yanıt — Biography

Nevin Yanıt is a Turkish athlete born on February 16, 1986, in Mersin, who competed in the 100 meters hurdles throughout her career. She first drew attention in 2006 by winning both the 100 meters and the 100 meters hurdles at the Interuniversity Athletics Championship, and that same year took gold for ENKA at the European Champion Clubs Cup in Valencia, Spain, with a time of 12.98.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics she became the first Turkish woman to reach the quarterfinals of the 100 meters hurdles, before adding a gold medal at the 2009 Summer Universiade and a European title in Barcelona in 2010, where she lowered her own Turkish record to 12.64 seconds. She won a second European title in Helsinki in 2012 and, at that year's London Olympics, finished fifth — a result that made her the only Turkish woman to reach both an Olympic semifinal and final in a short sprint event.

In 2013 a positive doping test in Düsseldorf led to a three-year ban, with her results from 2012 onward annulled and two gold medals rescinded. After her suspension ended in 2020 she returned to competition, and in 2018 she also appeared as a contestant on the reality show Survivor, hosted by Acun Ilıcalı.
