Nergis Kumbasar — Biography

Nergis Kumbasar was born on 25 May 1963 in Ankara to a family of Rize origin; her father was a professor of internal medicine and cardiology. She finished kindergarten in the United States while he was working there, and later, while attending TED Ankara College, her mother enrolled her in a modeling and charm course. She left university economics studies unfinished to model in Istanbul, a decision she would later call her greatest regret. After appearing in commercials, she moved into acting in the mid-1980s with the role of Nüzhet in the series Dokuzuncu Hariciye Koğuşu, and around the same time began working as a television presenter.

Across a career approaching four decades she has appeared in productions including Eyvah Kızım Büyüdü, Papatyam, Acemi Cadı, Kiralık Aşk, Çat Kapı Aşk and Seversin; in 2007 she also wrote the series Evimin Erkeği and Sardunya Sokağı, and hosted the programs Yeniden Başlasın and Nergis Zamanı.

She married actor and entertainer Mehmet Ali Erbil in 1989, and the couple had a daughter, Yasmin, in 1995 before divorcing in 1996. In the years since, she has periodically made headlines for candid answers to press questions about her ex-husband, including some prompted by their daughter.
