Nedim Doğan — Biography

Nedim Doğan, born in 1943, is a former international footballer and manager, known as a forward who wore the Fenerbahçe shirt for twelve years, from 1961 to 1973. In that time he scored 101 goals in 416 matches, captained the side from 1970 and was part of the squad that gave the club its first back-to-back league titles. He is counted among the players most closely identified with Fenerbahçe.

He started out at the Cibali club and, after finishing his schooling at Sultanahmet Endüstri Meslek Lisesi, moved to İstanbulspor. He stood out there and on 20 March 1961 first wore the youth national shirt, against Bulgaria in a European Youth Championship qualifying group; the same year he joined Fenerbahçe. With the yellow-and-navy side he won the Süper Lig in 1963-64, 1964-65, 1967-68 and 1969-70 and the Turkish Cup in 1967-68. He was in the squad that won the Balkans Cup, the first international trophy won by a Turkish team, and in the team that knocked Manchester City out of the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1968-69. He ended his playing career with a testimonial match on 8 August 1973, a 3-0 win over Beşiktaş.

He wore the national shirt 22 times from 1961: nine for the senior side, three for the under-21s and ten for the youth team. At the 1963 Mediterranean Games he played five matches for the Turkey amateur team and scored three goals, and he was also in the senior squad that won the 1967 RCD Cup.
