Naşide Göktürk — Biography

Naşide Göktürk was an artist who combined poetry, songwriting and singing, and she is remembered above all for "Yüreğim Rehin," the song that gave her first album its name, and for "Sakın Ha." With both books and records to her name, she reached a wide audience in the 1990s through emotional love songs for which she was also the lyricist, and the many albums and books she published show an artist working on stage and on the page alike.

She grew up on Büyükada and began writing during her school years. Before turning to music she worked for a time as an accountant and opened her own café in Ankara. Her first album, Yüreğim Rehin, came out in the mid-1990s and was followed by Yüreğim Hâlâ Rehin, Kan Kırmızı, Kimsem Yok and Unutmak İstiyorum, with her last album following after a gap of years. Her books, among them Sesimi Ateşe Verdim, Son Çaylar, Mavi Mavi Sevdim Seni and Tül Gibi, show her side as a writer. She also wrote both the words and the music of "Allah Şahit," which appears on Aşkın Nur Yengi's album Haberci.

She dedicated love songs such as "Sakın Ha" and "Yüreğim Rehin" to the actor Altan Erkekli. Her last album, Çocukluğumu Uçuruyorum, was released in 2016. She died in Bodrum on 30 August of that year and, as she had requested, was buried there.
