Mustafa Reşit Akçay — Biography

Mustafa Reşit Akçay is a Trabzon-born football coach, best known for the teams he took up from the lower leagues, for staying unbeaten in the Europa League with Osmanlıspor, and for winning the Super Cup with Konyaspor. In summer 2026 he returned to the dugout as head coach of Araklıspor.

He began coaching at İdmangücü, where he worked for eight years, then spent four years in Trabzonspor's academy, contributing to the development of Fatih Tekke and Gökdeniz Karadeniz. In 1996 he spent seven months in coaching education at Ajax's academy; afterwards he worked as Giray Bulak's assistant at Vanspor, Göztepe, Sakaryaspor and Trabzonspor. His first head-coach job was at Bulancakspor in 2001-02; he was Third League champion with Pazarspor in 2004-05 and runner-up with Ofspor in 2007-08, taking that team up a division.

In 2009-10 he took over TKİ Tavşanlı Linyitspor in the relegation zone and led them to the Second League play-off title. With 1461 Trabzon he won the Second League Red Group in 2011-12 and went up to the First League. In May 2013 he took charge of Trabzonspor, winning 9 and drawing 3 of 12 Europa League matches, and left by mutual consent in February 2014. In 2015 he became Osmanlıspor coach and stayed unbeaten in the seven Europa League matches they played. He won the 2017 Super Cup with Konyaspor. In 2020-21 he led Kocaelispor to the Second League play-off title, and from 2022 he worked at Esenler Erokspor.
