Murat Şahin — Biography

Murat Şahin, born on 4 February 1976 in Istanbul, is a Turkish football coach and former goalkeeper. He took up football as an amateur at Göztepe Hilal Spor, joined Fenerbahçe at 17 and turned professional a year later. Although he spent seven seasons with the club, he remained the understudy to Engin İpekoğlu and Rüştü Reçber and saw limited first-team action.

After loan spells at Konyaspor and Diyarbakırspor, he helped Adanaspor win promotion to the Süper Lig, then played for Çaykur Rizespor before signing for Beşiktaş in 2004. With the Istanbul club he won two Turkish Cups and a Turkish Super Cup. His most memorable display came in April 2007 against Antalyaspor, when he stayed in goal despite a serious knee injury and kept a clean sheet in a crucial victory. He was also part of the Turkey squad that finished third at the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Following stints at Gaziantepspor and Kasımpaşa, he ended his playing career at Eyüpspor in 2011 and was appointed the club's head coach in 2012, continuing to work in management in the years that followed.
