Münir Mercan — Biography
Münir Levent Mercan, usually called Levent Mercan, is a German-born footballer of Turkish descent. A left-footed player, he mostly plays as a left-back or wing-back, and because he began his career as a number ten he has also been used in central midfield, on the left wing and at centre-back. He came through Schalke 04's academy, played in the Bundesliga, reached the Süper Lig with Fatih Karagümrük and has been at Fenerbahçe since June 2024.
He began in the Ruhr region at PSV Recklinghausen, then played for the youth sides of VfB Hüls, VfL Bochum and Rot-Weiss Essen; he joined Schalke 04 in 2016 and won the western regional title of Germany with their under-17 and under-19 teams. He was called up to the first team's pre-season camp for 2019-20: on 10 August 2019 he came off the bench away at SV Drochtersen/Assel in the DFB-Pokal and scored in the 73rd minute, a week later he made his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Mönchengladbach, and on 22 August he signed a first professional contract running to June 2023.
In August 2021 he was loaned to Fatih Karagümrük, and the move was made permanent in 2022. On 21 June 2024 he signed a four-year contract with Fenerbahçe; he played his first league match for the club away at Rizespor, won the 2025 Turkish Super Cup, and in November 2025 made his European debut in the UEFA Europa League against Ferencváros. He played for Germany's under-19 and under-20 teams.
