Metecan Birsen — Biography
Born James Metecan Birsen on April 6, 1995, in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, he holds dual Turkish-Irish citizenship. Standing 2.05 m tall, he plays mainly as a power forward, though he can also fill the small forward role and even play center in smaller lineups.
Birsen began his basketball career in Fenerbahçe's youth system and was named MVP of the 2012 EuroLeague Next Generation tournament before turning professional in the 2011-12 season. After loan spells with İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor, Eskişehir Basket and Sakarya Büyükşehir Belediyespor, he joined Anadolu Efes in 2018, winning league and cup titles there. Following two seasons with Karşıyaka from 2019 to 2021, he returned to Fenerbahçe, where his second stint brought multiple Turkish League and Presidential Cup championships along with a EuroLeague title in 2025.
In July 2026, Birsen parted ways with Fenerbahçe and moved to Beşiktaş alongside teammate Scottie Wilbekin. He also represents the Turkish national basketball team internationally.
