Melih Kibar — Biography
Melih Kibar was born on 6 September 1951 in Istanbul. After studying at Boğaziçi University, he turned to music, giving his first professional performance at the İstanbul Yelken Kulübü in 1969 before winning first prize for composition in an inter-school light music contest. From 1974 he worked alongside Timur Selçuk, developing his craft as a composer.
Over his career Kibar scored close to fifty films and television series, becoming best known for the enduring melodies of the Hababam Sınıfı film series. His songs written with lyricist Çiğdem Talu for singer Erol Evgin reached wide audiences; his singles 'Hep Böyle Kal' and 'Söyle Canım' earned a Gold Record, and in 1984 he was named Best Orchestra Conductor at the Sopot International Song Festival.
Melih Kibar died on 7 April 2005 in Istanbul. Decades later, his contribution to Turkish film music and popular song is still frequently remembered.
