Mehmet Sedef — Biography

Mehmet Seyfettin Sedef was born on 5 August 1987 in Kilis; he began at Beşiktaş's youth academy in 2000 and signed a professional contract in March 2005, captaining the club's youth side. A left-back and midfielder, he made his first-team debut in May 2005 and went on to win the Turkish Cup with Beşiktaş in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and the Turkish Super Cup in 2006, playing his first European match against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Cup; in 2007-08 he started in an 8-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool. After his Beşiktaş contract ended in 2010, he was loaned to Altay and Çaykur Rizespor before playing for Konyaspor, Gençlerbirliği, Antalyaspor and Gaziantepspor, scoring his first professional goal against Kasımpaşa in 2011. In October 2013 he suffered a heart attack returning from an away match at Konyaspor and was taken into intensive care, returning to the pitch after treatment. He was capped for Turkey's U-19 (8 caps, 2 goals) and U-20 teams and played at the 2006 European U-19 Championship. He later played for Çorum FK, parting ways in 2021. After retiring he moved into coaching, managing Diyarbekirspor in late 2025 and second-tier side Kepezspor from February 2026, leaving that post a short time later.
