Mehmet Güven — Biography

Mehmet Güven was born on 30 July 1987 in Malatya. He began playing at Kanarya Azimspor before moving into Galatasaray's youth academy at age eleven, where he won titles with the junior sides. He was promoted to the first team under manager Gheorghe Hagi and made occasional appearances during Eric Gerets' tenure. He is remembered for coming on as a substitute in a 2006-07 Galatasaray-Liverpool match and setting up a goal, and he also scored once from a free kick in a Turkish Cup match that season.

He transferred to Manisaspor in 2009 and spent three seasons there, before moving on to Eskişehirspor in 2012, Konyaspor in 2013 and Osmanlıspor in 2015; later in his career he played for Giresunspor and finished his playing days with amateur side Kavaklıderespor. He earned 22 caps across various Turkish youth national teams and a further 11 with the under-21 side.

In a 2011 interview with the Turkish Football Federation, he described his years with clubs in Anatolia as a period in which he felt most at peace.
