Mehmet Aurelio — Biography
Born Marco Aurélio Brito dos Prazeres on 15 December 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, Mehmet Aurelio is a Brazilian-born footballer and coach who later became a Turkish citizen. Raised in the Flamengo youth system, where he made more than 100 appearances, he spent the bulk of his playing career in Turkey with Trabzonspor, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, totaling 254 Süper Lig appearances, 29 goals and three league titles with Fenerbahçe, and also played two La Liga seasons for Real Betis in Spain.
After being naturalized, Aurelio earned 44 caps for the Turkish national team between 2006 and 2011, scoring twice and reaching the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2008. Since retiring as a player, he has coached several lower-division clubs in Turkey, taking up a role with his former club Fenerbahçe at the end of 2023.
