Mehmet Akif Alakurt — Biography

Mehmet Akif Alakurt was born on 23 July 1979 in the Fatsa district of Ordu to a family of Georgian descent, and completed primary and secondary school in Istanbul. With his mother's encouragement he joined modelling agent Neşe Erberk's agency, earned the titles "Rising Star" and "Prince of Turkey" in 1998, and in 2001 won the Best Model of Turkey contest before finishing runner-up at the world final, representing his country internationally. He moved into acting with the 2003 film Kırık Ayna, followed by roles in Metro Palas, Zeytin Dalı and Hacı. He became widely recognized as Boran Ağa in Sıla (2006–2008) and reached an even larger audience playing Maraz Ali in Adanalı (2008–2010). After further roles in Reis, Fatih and Emanet, he stepped away from acting in 2015 and relocated to Brazil, eventually settling on a farm where he lives with his dogs. In 2017 he said on social media that, despite its popularity, Adanalı was the one role he regretted taking, and in 2020 he reaffirmed he had no plans to return to the screen. He has periodically had to deny false reports of his death.
