Marjan — Biography
Marjan was the stage name of Shahla Safi Zamir, an Iranian actress and singer who became one of the familiar faces of Tehran's popular cinema. She was born on 14 July 1948, with most accounts naming Tehran as her birthplace.
Her screen career opened in 1969 with A World Full of Hope and ran through a long series of Iranian productions, among them Here Comes Mr. Mehdi, in which she played Parvin, A Man and a City, where she was Zhaleh, and A Man for Rent, where she appeared as Jahan. Alongside the films she built an equally large following as a Persian pop singer.
The revolution of 1979 cut that career short, and for some twenty-seven years she was unable to work in either field. She spent her last years far from Iran and died in Los Angeles on 6 June 2020.
