Korel Engin — Biography

Korel Engin, born Cori Enghusen, is a former center who was born in the United States, later took Turkish citizenship and played for the Turkish women's national basketball team. At 201 cm she was the tallest member of the squad. With the national team she won gold at the 2005 Mediterranean Games; at club level she won the league and cup with Fenerbahçe and the Women's EuroCup with Galatasaray.

She was born in Bothell, Washington, and started playing basketball at 12. While at Inglemoor High School she was named the 1998 Gatorade Washington State Player of the Year. From 1998 to 2002 she studied sociology and psychology at Stanford University, playing center for a team ranked sixth in the NCAA, and in 2001 she won gold with the US team at the World University Games in Beijing. She was selected by the Houston Comets in the WNBA draft.

She played professionally in Greece in 2003 and moved to Turkey in 2004 to play for Migrosspor. In 2005 she agreed to become a Turkish citizen in order to join the national team and was part of the squad that won gold at the Mediterranean Games in Almería. In July 2005 she signed a two-year contract with Fenerbahçe and won both the league and the Turkish Cup in 2005-06. She moved to Galatasaray in 2008 and won the Women's EuroCup in 2008-09.
