Kıraç — Biography

Ali Tufan Kıraç, known professionally as Kıraç, was born on 17 June 1972 in Göksun, Kahramanmaraş. The son of a village-institute-trained teacher, he began schooling in his hometown before his family moved to Pazarcık and then, in 1982, to Istanbul, where he completed his education in Hasköy. He went on to study music education at Marmara University's Atatürk Faculty of Education.

He began performing in an Ortaköy bar in 1992, recorded his first demo in 1994, and released his debut album Deli Düş in 1998. Follow-ups such as Bir Garip Aşk Bestesi and Zaman established him as a leading voice of modern Anatolian rock. From 2002 he moved into television scoring, composing the music for hit series including Zerda, Bir İstanbul Masalı, Aliye, Binbir Gece and Beyaz Gelincik; the first of these won him the Best Music award at the 2005 Beyaz İnci Television Awards. In 2007 he wrote a piece for Fenerbahçe's centenary that was played in the stadium before matches. He married Ayşe Şule Bilgiç in 2008 and they have two children.
