Kayahan — Biography
Kayahan Açar (29 March 1949, İzmir – 3 April 2015, Istanbul) was one of Turkey's best-selling pop singer-songwriters and composers. Raised in Ankara before settling in Istanbul, he first made his name as a songwriter, penning material for singer Nilüfer; tracks such as “Geceler”, “Kar Taneleri” and “Esmer Günler”, later associated with her recordings, went on to become classics of Turkish pop.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, Kayahan wrote and composed virtually all of his own material, releasing three 45-rpm singles, one LP, thirteen cassette and CD albums and a further single. He represented Turkey at the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest with “Gözlerinin Hapsindeyim”. After a long battle with cancer, he died in Istanbul on 3 April 2015.
