Kandemir Konduk — Biography

Kandemir Konduk is a playwright and screenwriter who works with comedy on stage, on screen and on the page. He is known for plays performed at Zeki Alasya and Metin Akpınar's Devekuşu Kabare, for writing the long-running television series Mahallenin Muhtarları, and for humorous story and memoir books. Seventeen of his plays have been staged.

After finishing Edirne High School he worked in his youth in jobs such as accounting, textiles, street vending and stage acting. He began writing short stories, and his humorous pieces appeared in newspapers and magazines. His first play, Yüzsüz Zühtü, was staged in 1971 at the Altan Erbulak-Metin Serezli Çevre Theatre. Among his best-known plays are İnsanlığın Lüzumu Yok and Yasaklar, performed at Devekuşu Kabare. In 1982 he worked with Müjdat Gezen in a group called Güldürü Üretim Merkezi (GÜM).

On the screen side he started with credits such as Gülümseyen Dünya and Çalsın Sazlar (1984) and Kobay and Perihan Abla (1986), and he also produced the film Ana (1991). In the 1990s he wrote the series Mahallenin Muhtarları, Ana Kuzusu and Mesela Dedik, followed by Abuzer Kadayıf (2000), Tatil Aşkları (2004) and Aman Annem Görmesin (2008). His books include Komik Hüzünlerim, Ünlülerden Komik Anılar, Artiz Mektebi and Kadınlar Hep Gülmeli.
