Juan Diego — Biography
Juan Diego Ruiz Moreno, known professionally as Juan Diego, was born on 14 December 1942 in Bormujos, Spain, and died on 28 April 2022 in Madrid. Active on stage, television, and in film from 1957 onward, he built a decades-long career that earned him a Goya Award and a Silver Shell for Best Actor, among other honors.
Recognized for his raspy voice, Diego frequently portrayed abrupt, authoritarian, and sometimes fascist-leaning characters. His best-known television role was the foul-mouthed Don Lorenzo in Los hombres de Paco. On screen, he appeared in films including The Pizza Triangle, La criatura, Jamón jamón, You're the One, Padre coraje, Noviembre, and Nightfall in India.
Beyond acting, Diego was known for his left-wing political activism and took an active role in advancing labor rights for film industry workers in Spain.
