Jasna Diklić — Biography

Jasna Diklić is one of the best-known stage and screen actresses of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has worked on the Sarajevo stage for more than fifty years with more than 150 theatre and film roles. Her name is linked above all with the wartime theatre founded in the besieged city during the Bosnian War, and in 1997 she was named Woman of the Year in Art in the country. She has won a number of awards.

Her mother was also an actress and a puppeteer. After her first experiences at the experimental theatre studio of the MESS Festival, she studied performing arts in Sarajevo. She started professionally in 1969 at the National Theatre in Banja Luka and soon moved to the small Sarajevo theatre now known as Kamerni Teatar 55. During the siege she was among the founders of Sartr, which worked under the motto “Theatre against death” drawing in actors from the closed professional theatres for four years. She later became head of the poetic youth theatre Juventa.

On screen she played Desa Jovanović in Remake (2003) and appeared in As If I Am Not There (2010) and Shanghai Gypsy (2012), where she is cast as Baka Rajka, and on television she has been seen in series such as Kriza and Krv nije voda.
