İsmail Güneş — Biography

İsmail Güneş was born on June 10, 1961, in Samsun and graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Literature. During his university years, in 1976, he entered the film industry as an assistant director to Natuk Baytan; a year later he made his directorial debut with the short film "Karanlık Bir Dönemdi," which won the best film award from İFSAK in 1982.

After working as a journalist between 1982 and 1986, Güneş returned to feature filmmaking in 1986 with "Gün Doğmadan." In the years that followed he directed numerous film and television productions, including series such as "Yunus Emre," "Sultan" and "Bizim Ev," as well as biographical religious dramas like "Veysel Karanî Hazretleri" and "Ahmet Bedevî Hazretleri."

Later in his career he became known as both director and screenwriter on films such as "Sözün Bittiği Yer" (2007), "The İmam" (2005), "Ateşin Düştüğü Yer" (2012) and "Kervan 1915" (2017), occasionally also serving as producer; with "Sıvasız Evlerden Biri" in 2025 he continued a film career spanning more than four decades.
