Hüseyin Saygun — Biography

Hüseyin Saygun (16 October 1918, Istanbul – 30 March 1993, Istanbul) was a Turkish footballer who spent many years with Beşiktaş and later worked as the club's head coach. Known for his tough man-marking style, he was nicknamed "Çengel Hüseyin" ("Hüseyin the Hook") and captained the team toward the end of his playing career.

Playing alongside legendary teammates such as Hakkı Yeten, Şeref Görkey, Hüsnü Savman, Eşref Bilgiç, İbrahim Tusder, Şükrü Gülesin and Şevket Yorulmaz, he was part of the Beşiktaş side that won eleven Istanbul championships between 1938 and 1952, five of them in succession. He also represented Turkey's national team and is recorded as having taken part in the men's football tournament at the 1948 London Olympics.
