Hüseyin Köroğlu — Biography

Born in Nicosia in 1964 to a farming family, Hüseyin Köroğlu is a Turkish Cypriot actor, playwright and director; he finished primary school in the village of Gönendere and high school in Nicosia before entering the Theatre Department of the Ankara State Conservatory in 1982 and graduating in 1986.

He then moved from the stage into film, appearing alongside Kemal Sunal in Koltuk Belası (1990) and in productions with figures such as Murat Serezli and Atıf Yılmaz, and played Hristos in the 1999 film Boatman. He gained his widest recognition as Pikeas (Kubilay Şahin) in the series Kollama.

He has also built a reputation as a playwright, winning the Best Playwright award for his play Kanatsız Güvercinler; he aimed to stage his work Esaretten Özgürlüğe in London in 2017, and his 2024 play Yaşamak Mı Yoksa Ölmek Mi reached audiences that same year, in which he also marked the anniversary of his father's death with a poem. Over a career of more than twenty years he has appeared in numerous films and series; he is married and has a daughter.
