Hüseyin Çimşir — Biography

Hüseyin Çimşir is a defensive midfielder turned coach whose name has been tied to Trabzonspor since boyhood. He played a plain game, shielding the back line and moving the ball to midfield, and won 34 caps for Turkey. He is back at the club as Şenol Güneş's assistant; in September 2026, after Fatih Tekke, he was given charge of preparing the team for the Gençlerbirliği match.

He joined Trabzonspor's youth set-up at the age of eight. After the first team he went to Sakaryaspor in a deal involving Igor Nikolovski, played for Antalyaspor, and returned to Trabzonspor. He captained the side from 2006 to 2009 and won the Turkish Cup in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Known for heated reactions to refereeing decisions, he became a target for the stands after errors against Fenerbahçe in 2007-08. Hugo Broos wanted to keep him, but the board refused. When his contract ran out the sides parted; he turned down Dinamo Tbilisi and Anatolian clubs for a 2+1 year deal with Bursaspor, and was in the squad that won the 2009-10 Süper Lig, the first title outside Istanbul in 26 years. He also had a short spell at Adana Demirspor.

He retired at the end of 2012-13 and took his first coaching job with the Trabzon Akçaabat under-14s. Assistant roles followed at Akhisar Belediyespor, Osmanlıspor, Konyaspor and Trabzonspor. After Ünal Karaman resigned on 30 December 2019 he was named Trabzonspor head coach on 2 January 2020 and stayed until 20 July 2020. He took over BB Erzurumspor in December 2020, and in September 2024 returned to Trabzonspor as an assistant coach.
