Hilmi Kiremitçi — Biography
Hilmi Kiremitçi was born in 1934 in Plovdiv, in present-day Bulgaria. A footballer who later became a coach, he is closely associated with Vefa İstanbul, where he spent much of his playing career, and he was also one of the most popular players of his era at Fenerbahçe. After retiring as a player, he went on to work as a manager.
Diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005, Kiremitçi fought a long illness before being hospitalized in Bandırma, where he lived, on 10 July 2011. He died on the night of 20 July 2011. Following funeral prayers in Bandırma, he was buried in the Erdek district of Balıkesir province, where he had spent his final years.
