Hasan Karacadağ — Biography

Hasan Karacadağ was born on October 20, 1976, in Şanlıurfa. He began his studies at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy in Ankara but left that path, moving to Japan to study filmmaking and eventually graduating from the directing program at Nippon Eizo-Juku. His short film "Pas" won awards at the Tokyo Video Festival and the JVC Film Festival, and in 1999 his film "Hummadruz" screened at the Istanbul International Film Festival.

With the first Dabbe film in 2006, Karacadağ brought jinn-themed horror to Turkish cinema and has since directed more than a dozen films; the Dabbe series later became a cult favorite after reaching a wide audience through Netflix. In 2016 he directed "Magi," featuring Michael Madsen and Stephen Baldwin. Following the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey, he was among roughly 3,000 people for whom an arrest warrant was issued over social media posts related to the events.
