Hamit Akbay — Biography

Hamit Akbay (1900, Istanbul - 1986, Istanbul) was a Turkish national footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He first stood out playing for an Anatolian club before wearing the colours of Muhafızgücü (1924-25), the military team he joined during his service, and then Fenerbahçe, for whom he kept goal in 15 matches during the 1925-26 season as the club finished runner-up in the Istanbul Football League.

Akbay made his debut for the Turkey national team on 19 June 1924 in Tallinn, where Turkey defeated Estonia 4-1, and went on to earn six caps in total, one of them while playing for Fenerbahçe. Sources also credit him with representing the national side at the 1924 Paris Olympics that same year.

After retiring from playing, Akbay served as a member of Fenerbahçe's disciplinary board (Haysiyet Divanı). He died in Istanbul in 1986.
