Halit Deringör — Biography

Born in Istanbul's Kadıköy district on 17 July 1922, Halit Deringör became one of Turkish football's most storied figures, remembered as a player, coach, club administrator and sports columnist. He died in Istanbul on 14 March 2018.

Deringör took up football at ten and joined Fenerbahçe's youth ranks in 1937, breaking into the first team on 1 May 1942 against Rapid Bucharest. He spent his entire ten-year playing career at Fenerbahçe without ever representing another club, retiring in 1952 with 107 goals in 330 official appearances and five trophies, including four national league titles. International caps were scarce in that era, and he earned just five for Turkey, though he was part of the squad at the 1948 London Olympics.

After retiring as a player, Deringör spent nine years coaching Bursa Acar İdman Yurdu, guiding the club to the 1955 Turkish Amateur Championship, and later served as Fenerbahçe's technical head in the 1961-62 season. He sat on Fenerbahçe's board under chairman İsmet Uluğ from 1964 to 1965, and from 1964 wrote a sports column for the newspapers Cumhuriyet and Aydınlık.
