Halil Dervişoğlu — Biography
Halil Dervişoğlu is a centre forward who grew up in the Netherlands, chose to play for Turkey, and has worn the Galatasaray shirt in three separate spells. He was in the Euro 2020 squad and will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at Gaziantep FK.
He joined the Sparta Rotterdam academy at 10, rose through the reserves with 21 goals in 26 matches, and helped the club return to the Eredivisie in 2019. At Brentford, which he joined in January 2020, he struggled for game time, making 12 appearances and scoring once in three and a half years, and he was loaned to Twente, Galatasaray and Burnley. In his first loan at Galatasaray he scored three times in the last four matches as the team missed the title by one goal; in a second loan season he scored five in 33 matches. In July 2023 he signed permanently for Galatasaray on a four-year deal and scored against Žalgiris and Olimpija Ljubljana in Champions League qualifying.
He then played on loan at Hatayspor, Gaziantep FK and Çaykur Rizespor, scoring four in a 5-2 Turkish Cup win over Gaziantep for Rizespor. After playing for Turkey at under-19 and under-21 level, he scored on his senior debut against Azerbaijan on 27 May 2021 and made two appearances at Euro 2020.
